Balos beach lagoon, this is a must in west of Crete

Balos lagoon in west coast of Crete is an amazing spot to visit. It's a must and it's totally worth its reputation. The area is built like a lagoon with very shallow waters, so suitable for all ages. You can arrive at Balos lagoon either by car or by boat.

If you choose to travel by boat there is a tiny uninhabited island Graboussa, before you arrive to Balos lagoon, northwest of Crete, it's famous for its Venetian castle and its blue crystal clear waters.

By car:
It's about 10 kilometers far from Kalyviani, at the North and over 60 Kilometers from Chania, at the north side of Gramvousa Peninsula, Balos Lagoon is one of the best beaches of the Mediterranean Sea. Once you arrive to Kalyviani you need to follow the signs to Balos beach. It will be about 10 km bumby road. Once you arrive at the end of the road then things are getting even harder because you need to go through all the short path to the beach. From the parking lot there is hike of 30 minutes on a foot path - mostly built as stairs - downward to the beach. Beleive me that's really worth it. The views of the Balos beach are magnificent and you never, ever forget in your whole life. While you're into the beach you can enjoy the blue crystal clear waters.

By boat:
There are daily cruises to Balos from Kissamos port. The trip starts from Kissamos and then to Gramvousa where the boat remains for a couple of hours. Then in about half an hour you reach Balos beach and you can enjoy the beach until the time that boat is sceduled to depart back to Kissamos.
