Apokoronas is the area that occupies the northeastern part of the prefecture of Chania, at the foot of the White Mountains to the north coast of Crete.

The area has lush hills with fertile land areas. The water which flows from fountains, descends from the mountains and creates a unique natural lake, the lake of Kournas. Then, it crosses the region until it finds a way out in sea.

The geographic position of Apokoronas is significant, as it connects Chania, with the other prefectures of Crete. Apokoronas reaches the southern part of Souda. There are also two capes, the cape of Souda and Drepano. A part of Apokoronas is covered by the mountain range of the White Mountains.

In Apokoronas, there are also great canyons as Diktamos, which starts from Katochori, Keramia and ends near Stylos, St. Nicholas canyonl between Ramni and Macheri and Asi Gonia canyon. In Apokoronas, there are also 213 recorded caves with historical and environmental value.

The villages of Apokoronas are 75, all of them with traditional taverns, small cafes and picturesque squares.
