Plaka
a traditional small quiet village in Apokoronas region
Plaka is located 25 km from main Chania city and is a part of Vamos Municipality in Apokoronas region. Plaka is built in 68m above sea and offers a fantatic view to Souda bay and Akrotiri peninsula on the north west. In terms of view Plaka is one of the few areas that combine sea views and mountain views as you also have views to the White mountains.
The village has lush vegetation and largely preserves the beautiful natural surroundings as it is located on the slope of Mount Drapanokefala where the vegetation is intense and varied. You can see even olives trees, undergrowth of shrubs and organically grown plants, which have not altered the character of the area. The village still retains its traditional character greatly.
The closest beach is in Almyrida which is about 1.5 km away from Plaka main square. Guests of Plaka can find all basic amenities such as mini markets, cafe amd tavernas; all located in the main square of the village, next to the local church. In this square, foreign and local visitors gather every summer square and enjoy their cofee or lunch in one of the taverns or cafes, located there.
Plaka is between Almyrida and Kokkino Chorio. All of these areas have permanent residents all around the year. The last 2-6 years Plaka and surrounded areas has been an atttraction for foreigners who wanted to buy a home or spend their holidays. In the summer time, local people and visitors create a great place to spend your time.
