Agia Marina in Chania of Crete
Agia Marina is 9 Kilometers away from Chania main city on the way to Kastelli. It took its name from the church which is located on the small hill of the old village.
There is a beautiful 2.5 kilometer beach with all the standard facilities Being a tourist resort with great development and intense night life, Agia Marina has many hotels, taverns and restaurants with great food, bars, coffee shops and various other stores. The long sandy beach is one of the most popular places for locals. There are plenty of beach bars where you can either relax or have cocktails along with your company.
One of the most popular and cosmopolitan beaches of Crete is just 9 km from Chania. Agia Marina, in the Municipality of Nea Kydonia, is a beach with very fine sand which stretches for more than 2 km. It is one of the most organized beaches of Chania - and the whole county - with lifeguard services and organized tourist facilities, facilities for bathers and a variety of water sports (windsurfing, water skiing, etc.). The beach of Agia Marina is ideal for families with children and a shallow, warm waters of the beach, considered absolutely safe. Opposite the beach of Saint Marina stands the islet of Agioi Theodori or Thodorou, which hosted the protected wild goats of Crete known as ibex.
Agia Marina caters mainly for the package holiday market and lacks a Cretan atmosphere. The road which passes right in the center of Agia Marina is busy but the situation has improved since the national road has been extended and is being used as a bypass. The old part of the village located on a hill still retains some charm.
The favourite choice especially of the locals, this sandy beach of Aghia Marina is 10 minutes out of Chania and is full of loud beach-bars that turn into open air night clubs at night.
